Before submitting your application, make sure you:

  1. Choose the correct grant. Determine whether your request is for Research or Professional Development.
  2. Check your timeline. Travel applications may be submitted up to 180 days before your travel date.
  3. Explain why the funding matters. Tell GRP how the funding will support your research, academic progress, or professional development.
  4. Be specific. Reviewers may not be experts in your field or familiar with the opportunity you are pursuing.
  5. Provide a clear budget. Explain what you are requesting and how the expenses relate to your proposed activity.
  6. Identify other resources or funding. Include relevant advisor, department, program, conference, research, or external support.
  7. For Research Grants, consider UMBC resources. If the resource you need is available at UMBC but cannot reasonably be used for your project, explain why.
  8. Submit a complete application. Clear and complete information helps GRP fairly evaluate and rank your application.

Professional Development Grant: Up to $900

Research Grant: Up to $1,000
