UMBC's Division of Institutional Equity is hosting this event for you to gain an overview of the principles of free speech and academic freedom for students, faculty, and staff in public higher education institutions. Attendees will gain an understanding of the importance of free speech, the types of speech that are protected, what restrictions can be placed on speech, and how to combat offensive speech. The session will also discuss the academic freedom protections afforded to faculty relative to their teaching and research.
