What Storm, What Thunder Book Discussion

Maryland Humanities developed the One Maryland One Book (OMOB) initiative "to bring together diverse people in communities across the state through the shared experience of reading the same book." After all, one of the greatest joys of reading is sharing our favorite books and starting a conversation about the ideas they present.

This year's One Maryland One Book is What Storm, What Thunder by Myriam J.A. Chancy, and UMBC has been invited to participate in a statewide conversation about this book. This title explores the impact of a 7.0 earthquake on the intersecting lives of a community in Haiti. Chancy’s What Storm, What Thunder was named a best book of the year by NPR, Kirkus, Library Journal, the Boston Globe, and The Globe and Mail and was awarded the American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation.

In partnership with the Arbutus Branch of the Baltimore County Public Library, the Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery will be hosting a book discussion on October 8, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM in Room 259 of the Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery. Join us to discuss your perspective on the book while enjoying snacks and drinks.
