Kick off the semester and celebrate your Retriever pride at our Commuter Welcome Event!
Saturday, August 23, 2025
2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Check-in begins at 1:30 p.m.)
University Center Ballroom
- Hear from fellow commuter students during a live panel as they share real talk about navigating campus life, balancing it all, and making the most of the UMBC experience!
- Make meaningful connections with other commuters and university staff through fun and intentional opportunities to build your community
- Experience Retriever Fest — to learn about campus resources and the UMBC community
- Play BINGO and win amazing prizes!
- Enjoy free snacks throughout the event and a delicious meal for dinner!
- Cool down with an Ice Cream Social with the Vice President of Student Affairs
- Optional: Stay for Playfair, dance party + fireworks experience from 8:00–11:00 p.m.
Whether you’re brand new to college or transferring from another institution, come get plugged in, meet new people, and start the year strong!
This event is designed especially for new students entering their first semester at UMBC.
